The Sunday Paper #44
In the Studio: I’m busy clearing my flat files to make room for new papers and projects and my bi-annual on-line paper sale begins tomorrow. Subscribe to my monthly e-newsletter to be notified when the sale starts. I’m offering discounts on hemp papers, abaca leather, butterfly stenciled sheets and a few watermarked book pages (extras from my newest artists’ book, pictured below).

Here’s a clever ad made with paper from Jupiter Cape Town in South Africa with a sweet message: you’re not crazy for thinking you can change your world.
Check it out: Colette Fu’s pop-up photographic collages made the National Geographic blog.
If you happen to be in Iowa, my friend, colleague and paper sculptor Julie McGlaughlin has an exhibition of her exquisite paper garments opening at the Waterloo Center for the Arts on March 12th.
I wrote about the pleated kraft paper forms from Lognon, France a couple of weeks ago, but the link was in French. Here’s a description in English that describes the tradition of transferring the kraft paper pleats to fabric through a steaming process. Amazing!
Here’s a cool video about the intersection of art and science through origami. I’m actually hoping to go hear Robert Lang speak when I’m in Salt Lake City next month. _________________________________________________________________________
About The Sunday Paper: The Sunday Paper is published by Helen Hiebert Studio. They keep saying that paper will become obsolete, yet artists, craftspeople, designers and creatives are keeping it alive and well. A healthy number of people are even making paper by hand (in some cultures they are still using age-old traditions). How cool is that? The Sunday PAPER is a resource for ideas and inspiration, all having to do with this amazing material. Each Sunday, I bring you stories and examples of people doing exciting, innovative, and beautiful things with paper, as well as links to interesting paperfacts I’ve unearthed from around the globe. I hope you’ll enjoy reading this paper, Papier, papel, хартия, Papir,紙, Papper, פּאַפּיר… and don’t hesitate to click on the link to leave your comments and suggestions!
