In the Studio: I finished hand watercoloring the shapes for my artists’ book Interluceo. Béatrice Coron has also completed the paper cut illustrations, so everything is ready to send to the binder. Check out this animation of some of her paper cut that represents the number two – wow, the paper is cutting itself!

My bi-annual paper sale begins next week! Look for specials on watermarked handmade papers as well as abaca leather in bright colors.

My kiddos spent this past week in Chicago with relatives and friends, so I took a little trip to visit art spaces in Denver, Boulder and Longmont. This show at the Firehouse Art Gallery in Longmont features lovely paper work by J. Diane Martonis and Jennifer Ghormley.

Sometimes I’m amazed at the number of random personal connections I’ve made in the paper world (or are they random)? When I was just starting to learn about paper in NYC, a good friend of mine happened to rent a room in book artist Doug Beube‘s house. I think that is random, since my friend is a computer scientist. Doug is prolific and his work is thought provoking. His work is featured on the header for The Paper Fair in NYC, which I would attend in a heartbeat if I were closer…

Wow, this is the most unique use of cardboard I’ve seen in awhile: Eva Jospin, as featured on Beautiful/Decay.

Did any of you get to see Jae Ko installing her most recent work at Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ? It opens to the public on March 28th. Shiro transforms over 20,000 lbs of recycled Kraft paper into a sculptural installation along an 80-foot span of wall in the East Gallery. 

Here’s an interesting article about the future of Washi (Japanese paper). It has such a long tradition that is dwindling for many reasons.
