I’m not a big video game player (never have been) but I might have to check this one out. Lumino City (love the name) is a video game by State of Play made out of paper, card stock, miniature lights and motors.

If there had been a course like this at my college, I would have signed up! Check out these photos and short video about Stanford freshmen who get to take an intensive year-long humanities program with a focus on the history of science while putting handmade ink to handmade paper to recreate the ancient manuscript process.

Hanji, Korean handmade paper, has been gaining recognition here in America as artist/scholars like Aimee Lee travel back and forth and paper suppliers begin stocking Korean papers. Here’s a lovely video about Yim Yoonhee who makes traditional Korean woven paper vessels.

About The Sunday Paper: They keep saying that paper will become obsolete, yet artists, craftspeople, designers and creatives are keeping it alive and well. A healthy number of people are even making paper by hand (in some cultures they are still using age-old traditions). How cool is that? The Sunday PAPER is a resource for ideas and inspiration, all having to do with this amazing material. Each Sunday, starting with this edition, I’ll bring you stories and examples of people doing exciting, innovative, and beautiful things with paper, as well as links to interesting paperfacts I’ve unearthed from around the globe. I hope you’ll enjoy reading this paper, Papier, papel, хартия, Papir,紙, Papper, פּאַפּיר… and don’t hesitate to click on the link to leave your comments and suggestions!

  1. Thanks again, Helen. Don’t know how you find all these exceptional paper stories. The science and paper program is timely in education. I hope to look into it more. Thank you! Kim

  2. Love these Helen! Your paper is a wonderful source of inspiration.

Thanks, Jean. Are you the one who sponsored Ted as a Mazama? We sure enjoyed visiting that lodge with our children (I think I was pregnant with #1 when we met). All the best to you! – Helen
