I have enjoyed watching Lesley Dill‘s work evolve since the early 1990’s when I worked at Dieu Donné Papermill. My husband even wrote about her in The New Yorker way back then. Her large-scale installation, Faith & The Devil, which investigates the philosophical and existential conundrums of evil and underlying faith in the world, is now on view at the Weatherspoon Art Gallery at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.

Chuck Fisher is a fellow member of the Movable Book Society, and I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him at a couple of conferences. Check out his new White House Pop-Up Book, which starts shipping this month! This interactive book invites you to come inside for a private tour of the White House. Explore the model of this beautiful building filled with historic treasures, and discover what makes each room special. The book includes a removable 16-page illustrated guidebook as well as easy to assemble furniture and a replica of the presidential helicopter, Marine One

And those of you traveling to NYC through February 8th can grab tickets to the show, too. Cut paper (now called paper cutting) has grown extensively as a field, but Matisse was certainly an innovator in his day as well as an inspiration to many.

About The Sunday Paper: They keep saying that paper will become obsolete, yet artists, craftspeople, designers and creatives are keeping it alive and well. A healthy number of people are even making paper by hand (in some cultures they are still using age-old traditions). How cool is that? The Sunday PAPER is a resource for ideas and inspiration, all having to do with this amazing material. Each Sunday, starting with this edition, I’ll bring you stories and examples of people doing exciting, innovative, and beautiful things with paper, as well as links to interesting paperfacts I’ve unearthed from around the globe. I hope you’ll enjoy reading this paper, Papier, papel, хартия, Papir,紙, Papper, פּאַפּיר… and don’t hesitate to click on the link to leave your comments and suggestions!

I’m fairly new to the paper world and am learning about so many new possibilities with paper. I send The Sunday Paper to friends who I hope will have their eyes opened to the exciting world of paper.
Thanks so much for all your work putting this together!
