Pop-Ups & Wishes

Pop-Ups & Wishes

This has been a busy couple of weeks! My book Playing With Pop-Ups is scheduled to be released on May 1st; and I’m putting the final touches on The Wish Project, which will be installed later this month! This picture features an advance copy of Playing With Pop-Ups, which I received last week when I was in Golden for a marketing workshop. I had to take a photo of the book in situ (can you see the Welcome to Golden sign in the background)?

After the workshop in Golden, I taught a workshop at Anythink Huron Street library in Thornton. This is the picture from an article about the project that appeared in the Northglenn Thornton Sentinal. Participants had several ways to share wishes that day and one was to share one out loud in front of the group. It was quite touching to hear one woman choke up and say that she wished she could have one more cup of tea with her mother.

These are some of the participants hard at work making pop-up dandelion cards. And check out the lovely pictures from the workshop on the library’s facebook page.

And just by coincidence, the friend I was staying with had this book sitting in her dining room. I think this might just inspire a book of my own featuring the wishes I’ve collected from this project!

There are some great books out there about dandelions and wishes (the library set up this display on the day of the workshop). One of my favorites is called Wishing Traditions Around the World. Did you know that in India, school children make secret wishes on lucky peacock feathers and keep them safe between the pages of their notebooks, journals or diaries?

What wish-related materials have you seen or read? I’d love to hear about them.

A quick note/tip: I’ll be writing again on Thursday when Quarry Books launches a giveaway for Playing With Pop-Ups on Goodreads. Stay tuned!
