25 Days of Paper – Day 12

December 12, 2017
On the even days during December, I’m highlighting the companies that are sponsors of the Twelve Months of Paper Calendar. These companies work hard to bring us beautiful papers, paper products, paper journalism, paper- and book making tools, paper history and more. Today, we learn about Arnold Grummer’s.
Arnold Grummer’s® has been a supplier for hand papermaking supplies since 1976 when Arnold and Mabel filled their first order for classroom kits for teachers. By 1992 the family felt there was enough opportunity to support full time work and the moved the company to Milwaukee, WI. Since Arnold and family members shared a common foundation as educators, the primary focus of the business has been products for K-12 education and for those making paper at home. A few studio supplies include essential fibers – cotton linter, cotton rag and abaca – along with a popular line of handcrafted book & paper presses.

Arnold Grummer’s offers a new, economy version of their popular Book & Paper Press. All presses currently on sale. Arnold Grummer’s® offers 10% off your entire order thru 12.31.17 when you add promo code HH2017 to your shopping cart at www.arnoldgrummer.com. Discount does not apply to the Annual Press Sale, which is going on now.

Mabel made a plaster casting mold from a bronze cast Warrior sculpted by Montana artist Bern Sundell (used with permission). The paper cast is cotton linter with a small amount of abaca for added strength, and calcium carbonate to prevent yellowing over time.

A cast paper piece by Mabel Grummer is on display at an Artist & Craftsman dealer near you, along with Arnold Grummer’s basic papermaking supplies.

About Our Sponsor: Arnold Grummer’s ® has been an ambassador to education with the art and science of hand papermaking for over 40 years. They offer hands-on, easy-to-use kits and supplies for home, studio and classroom along with commonly used fibers. Product designs are inspired by Arnold Grummer’s work as a faculty liaison to paper scientists at the Institute of Paper Chemistry in Appleton, WI, now known as the Institute of Paper Science and Technology at Georgia Tech.  Arnold was passionate about the individual fiber. He encouraged young and old to discover how the smallest variations between ‘water, fiber and a screen’ could lead to limitless artistic expression.  Arnold’s inspiring presentations are available to everyone in video clips on arnoldgrummer.com
