This textured paper is made in Ghana from 100% Ghanaian mullberry pulp, grown in the rural areas around the city of Kumasi, in the Asanti Region. The papers are the result of Mary Hark‘s research, funded by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and is produced by Hark and Ghanaian colleagues working with a fledgling community of Ghanaian book art enthusiasts. The paper is woven with a silkscreen printed paper which is made and printed in India by Shizen Design.

This is the most elaborate holiday card I’ve received this year. It was created by Bruce Foster, one of the paper engineers who will be featured in my new book, Playing With Pop-Ups (to be published in May 2014).
Bruce is quite prolific, engineering books, games, and well you’ll get the idea by viewing the following images.

Bruce is featured today in an interview online as part of the Houston Press series, 100 Creatives 2013. Here’s a cute pop-up holiday video featuring one of Bruce’s books.

I’d love to hear about your favorite paper engineer or holiday card. Leave a comment below.

The only paper engineer I know is YOU Helen 🙂
I have so enjoyed receiving the daily 100 weavings into my email inbox, with their array of textures, shapes and colours.
This one is so delightful with it’s strong contrasts – the colours & textures but moreover that both papers are from so very far away: two continents interweaving . Love that.
    Thanks for your artmaking.
